Dedicated, compassionate, skilled, calm, and determined are just a few of the attributes describing the wonderful nurse we are here to honor. Labor and Delivery is often a happy unit, filled with the excitement of bringing new life into this world. On occasion, it can also bring moments of fear, as mom-to-be is admitted in pre-term labor or the need for continuous monitoring to keep both mom and baby safe. Teri Reddig was assigned a complex patient, admitted at 30 weeks, requiring continuous monitoring for the remainder of her pregnancy. Thankfully, this mom stayed pregnant and a patient on Labor and Delivery for several additional weeks. Teri quickly formed a special bond with her and would volunteer to care for this mom-to-be every shift she worked. All too soon, the physician decided a C-section was required to maintain the safety of both mom and baby at 33 weeks. The C-section was scheduled for the next day and Teri had just worked 3 busy shifts. While rounding on the unit, Teri approached her leader and asked if she could come in to be the nurse for the surgery and recovery. She explained her bond developed with this patient, and the pleasure she would have to support this special lady. Of course, this was approved and Teri came in on her day off to care for this mom through an extremely stressful time.
Teri is a wonderful example of a nurse who cares about her patients and their families. Teri is a true DAISY Nurse!
