Sheila is such an extraordinary nurse that it is difficult to pick just one situation that demonstrates her caring persona. However, one example of how she went the extra mile brings a smile to my face when I think of it. You see, I have a central line and she changes my dressings once a week. Instead of this being an ordinary appointment, Sheila uses this time to make my day better. She doesn't just complete the task at hand but spends time asking about my life, catching up on what I have been up to since the last week.
Moreover, every week I get a special surprise on my new dressing. Sheila takes time out of her busy schedule to cut out a special design with the Hypafix that is personalized just for me. One week, she drew "LSU" since I recently graduated from LSU. Another week she designed a Hypafix caduceus in purple and gold since I would have been attending LSU medical school before I was diagnosed. Sheila takes the time to truly get to know her patients and she is a wonderful nurse both clinically and emotionally.
