Today a day shift nurse called off and Melissa stayed late, did assessments, and passed the meds to the patients who would have been assigned to the nurse who called off. Melissa had just worked her 3 nights in a row and her 12-hour shift was technically over. She could have gone home and left the day nurses to take on those responsibilities, but because of the kind of person she is, Melissa stayed to help. This is not the first time she's done this. Melissa is constantly stepping up and lending a hand to those in need. She does this without any complaint or having a second thought. Kindness and compassion just come naturally to her. We are so lucky to have her, and our patients benefit greatly from her. I know this because Melissa was my father-in-law's nurse when he was here. She was constantly going above and beyond for him. She found out his favorite soda and brought in a 24 pack for him since it wasn't in the fountain. There are not enough good things I can say about her.
