Alicia went through the McDonald's drive-thru on her way to work simply because her patient with cancer wanted it. If this is not going above and beyond the call of duty, then I don't know what is. Alicia carries this same mentality with her day-to-day and anyone at this hospital can attest to that. I remember specifically a patient of mine that was passing away with no family and Alicia stayed at the bedside with me holding his hand because she could not bear the thought of him dying alone. I see Alicia and her compassion and love for this job, and it inspires me to be a better nurse. She makes her patient's stay in this hospital better and I can speak from experience and say that she makes her coworkers' day better than it would have been without her. She is everything this award stands for. This organization is lucky to have her and I feel even luckier to call her a coworker.
