Upon learning that there was a patient who had been scheduled for an after-hours surgery case with a special request, he went above and beyond to ensure that the needs of this patient were met. This patient had a religious preference that required that they are buried with all of their body parts, and the patient was scheduled for an appendectomy. After discussing this situation with the surgeon and the OR staff, Jay followed up with the lab and their Leadership as well as the pathology team to ensure that the specimen was labeled properly and would not be discarded after the necessary testing was completed. After ensuring that all of the proper steps were in place, Jay personally followed up with the patient after they had been discharged to walk them through the necessary steps to collect their specimen and the documentation that would be needed to complete the process. Jay showed amazing compassion and diligence to calm the anxiety if this patient and ensure that their spiritual health concerns and emotional needs were addressed along with their physical issues. He truly sets a standard for excellence and patient advocacy.
