Integrity: Samir always does the right things even when no one is watching. Samir will always answer the call light even if it's not for any of his patients. Samir always bends over backward to ensure every patient is satisfied with the care they are receiving and in doing so, has gained the respect of every patient on our unit. Samir never complains about any assignment. He instead always tries to figure out if any nurse is falling behind on their assignment and offers his help voluntarily. When Samir offers to help, he would do it perfectly, even better than the original nurse would. I have personally learned this ethic from Samir, and it has improved my attitude towards patient care in general. Samir exemplifies the perfect nurse we all wish would care for our beloved family member!
An example of how Samir exemplify this ICARE value:
Tonight, we were short nurses on the unit, we called Samir to see if he could help from 12 AM to 8 AM. He agreed. Since he got in at 12 AM, he had a very hectic assignment and did not have a second to take a seat. However, when I needed help with my patient who weighed about 300lbs and had his bed covered in stool, Samir, came to help me immediately after finishing with his patient. He worked really hard to help me clean up patient and changed the entire bed twice during the episode my patient was going through. Samir was so very patient with him because it took a whole lot to get him cleaned up as he continued to have continuous loose stools as we cleaned. I have never had any nurse help another nurse in the way Samir did. This patient was also a patient with a tracheostomy that needed to be continuously suctioned during this time. Samir helped make my patient very comfortable with his patience and how gently he cared for my patient.
