Linda has been supportive in recognizing nurses who have shown exemplary service at Nationwide Children's. Thanks for being present to share in the celebrations and support the staff. Linda has been the icing to our Cinnabon's. Thanks for your service with the DAISY Committee.

Linda was instrumental in listening to our vision about separating utilization review and discharge planning. The discussion was happening in 2010-11. Both roles were becoming larger than one person could manage for a given unit and we were spending less and less time with the family in trying to meet their needs. Some physician groups were asking more of us and staff were being asked to be a part of rounds. With the separation of roles, staff were able to participate in rounds, hearing those "buzz" words so that we could react sooner. This included expanding our role to be care coordinators, housed upon the unit so that we could be considered part of the team. We participated in the planning of where we would house the care coordinators in the new building, planning to implement the new process when the building opened in June 2012.
Linda understood that we were not just doing "discharge planning" for the patients and families but could actually move the progression of care by being an available resource to all staff. Care Coordination staff were active with the physicians and educators creating Journey Boards for the parents to monitor their progression and education. Care Coordination responsibilities grew to include prior authorization for Pharmacy, collecting avoidable days, and a respected resource used by the entire team. Staff satisfaction increased in both departments when they were able to focus on one role. I feel Linda advocated for Care Coordination catching our vision which promoted the best outcomes for our patients and families.

Linda has helped create a culture of nursing excellence at the hospital. She is supportive and pushes staff to be innovative and find ways to improve nursing processes and patient care. Linda's passion for nursing, nursing excellence, and Nationwide Children's Hospital will not be forgotten.

Linda has been instrumental in leading our nursing staff through the momentous events and changes our institution has been experiencing for 20 years. She has always kept the patients' and the staffs' best interests in mind. That has always shown through in every picture we see of her, every interaction we've had with her, and every communication received from her.

I met Linda shortly after I started working at NCH. I was eating alone in the Food Court and she asked if she could sit with me. From that time on, she always greeted me with a smile and my name whenever I saw her. In the past 17 years, I have worked with her in Shared Governance and on the DAISY Committee. I've found her to be a genuinely caring person and supportive of all the nurses. I'm very happy she sat with me that day. I wish her happiness and health on her next adventure.
