Kathryn and our midwife will always hold a special place in our hearts and minds when we think back to the birth of our first baby girl. She was born after an unplanned and very unexpected C-section. Our transfer to Jefferson was a turn from the path we had envisioned for our birth, but it ended up being one of the greatest experiences of our lives. I read recently read that a woman will never forget how she was treated while laboring in childbirth. I believe this to be true. The softness, kindness, and respect that my husband and I were shown during a most vulnerable time in our lives will not be forgotten.
Kathryn's gentle presence during the hours I labored gave me peace and calm that I was seen and my needs were met. When, finally, I was taken in for my C-section, Kathryn accompanied me in surgery. I found it very comforting that she was able to see me through my entire experience - she even correctly guessed the sex of my baby.
We would like to give a special thank you to Kathryn and the rest of the amazing nurses and midwives who supported and cared for me, the baby, and my husband in one of the peak experiences in our lives. With gratitude.
