My wife went to surgery and prior to doing so, April ensured that all pre-op was taken care of as normal. When my wife came back, April was in the room within two minutes of her return. My wife was upset that they had not let her go to the restroom in post-op, she was also upset that they had not given pain meds to slow the pain. April ensured that my wife was able to go to the restroom almost immediately, despite having a full patient load. Once April realized my wife was in pain, she volunteered to call the doctor and get an order for pain medicine. The same time, my was being disagreeable, April was sympathetic as well as empathetic, all while maintaining her professionalism. April continued to show her professionalism by listening to my wife complain and making sure that my wife was comfortable and readjusted from surgery. April continued to follow up with my wife until she was able to give the pain medicine that was ordered, then checked in to make sure that the medication worked for my wife.
April exemplifies what I believe to be the highest standards of what the nursing profession has to offer. I have never had a nurse that had a positive attitude, deal with someone as contrary as my wife was and continue to provide perfect and prompt care in such a caring manner. April is a credit to Mary Washington Hospital and should be used as an example of what it means to be a caregiver in the nursing profession.
