Jenny was our break RN. She was rounding the unit to see if anyone needed help. As a break RN, Jenny did not have to take the additional time to be a resource to the team but saw the need and took action. Jenny happened to walk by my patient room and saw me trying to re-orient and calm down a patient who was having extreme delirium and hallucinations. The patient was fearful, anxious, verbal, and agitated. Jenny helped me calm the patient and went a step further and displayed such kindness and compassion. She chose to stay with my patient and continued to educate and re-orient the patient multiple times, continued to set up items for the patient to their satisfaction. Jenny spoke calmly to the patient and stayed by their side until the patient became calm and felt safe. She stayed with the patient for approximately 2 hours answering repeated questions, ensured the patient's comfort. The compassion she gave to this patient is exactly what PeaceHealth expects of their staff. Jenny went above and beyond today. She helped out a team member but more importantly, knew a patient was in need and stepped up. Jenny truly listened to the patient. Nurses should strive to provide the compassionate and loving care Jenny showed to a patient today and to all her patients. I am very honored and lucky to have a co-worker like Jenny who continuously works hard for her patients and her team.
