Ali was one of my first nurses on the floor. She stuck out immediately because of her positive and upbeat personality. But I quickly realized there was much more to her than that. She was also very informative of every medical procedure or medication I would be taking. During her time with me, she was also training another nurse. Ali was so patient as an instructor while also being cognitive to me as the patient and my needs.
Ali proved herself, even more, when it came to the day of my bone marrow transplant. They were having difficulty getting the marrow to go through the line - it kept clotting. I was on quite a bit of medication at this time, so I was dozing off, but my husband can attest to Ali's perseverance and problem-solving. I know that there were a lot of different staff members in and out of my room trying to get the stem cells to go through, but according to my husband, it was Ali who figured out the solution. She was able to work through it all while keeping her composure. She and the nurse she was training sat with me and my husband for the next 5 ½ hours while the transplant took place. Ali even stayed with us past her shift ending in order to see us through to the end. And even on days when Ali wasn't my nurse, she always greets me with a smile and a "hello" in the halls. I feel that Ali genuinely loves her job and cares about her patients.
