Throughout our difficult time seeing my sister-in-law, for five days, Eileen, despite her seemingly endless duties, always took time to answer any questions. Questions such as, "What does oxygen level low mean? What causes that? What do you have to do to make it go back up?" Or, "Why is the oxygen level important to get her downstairs for an MRI?"
Eileen also tried to make us comfortable as much as possible. For example, when we are waiting for the doctor to stop by but don't know when she suggested to rest in the waiting room and call us when he arrives. One day, after a long day she came back the next morning, and I learned it was her day off but a very crucial day for us to make difficult decisions to unplug. So grateful she was there.
Last day, when a small group of church members came for a short service in the room with the door closed, Eileen even came in the room, in case the patient needed attention, even though hymn and prayers were all in Korean. In my many many visits to hospitals, I haven't met a nurse like Eileen, so capable and kind to family members. The best!
