I was coming to see my 89-year-old husband who was having a permanent pacemaker insertion today. I drove 45 minutes to Gulfport to be with him. It was raining, and the parking garage was full. I drove through the garage twice then parked in a patient's loading area and called the unit. Nurse Kelly answered the phone. I was in tears and told her, "I can't find a parking place close enough to the entrance." (I am handicapped, and I can't walk far.) I told Ms. Kelly that I was going back home, and for her to tell him why I couldn't get there and to tell him, "I love him."
Ms. Kelly said, "Stay right there. I will come down and get you." She brought a tech and a wheelchair for me, took my car keys, parked my car in the parking lot (in the rain) behind Driftwood, and brought my car keys back to me. I got to spend time with my husband, and after the procedure, I fed him his dinner.
Ms. Kelly went and brought my car back to the 1st-floor handicap parking area and took a picture of where she left my car. She arranged for another tech on the night shift to take me to my car, so that I could go home. Ms. Kelly really went the extra way-in the rain-to make it possible to be with my husband.
The staff members at Memorial are so wonderful. He had such good care. It is actions like Ms. Kelly's that provide such caring and wonderful care to patients and their family members.
