DJ has been a nurse with SwedishAmerican Home Health Care for years. She frequently cares for our youngest and sickest patients. Last year she was caring for a pediatric patient diagnosed with advanced cancer. DJ brought a bag full of blue lollipops with her to a visit because this child loved blue lollipops. She often showed up on her days off of work when the child's mother called because the young patient was crying for DJ. She even gave the patient money from her own pocket when the patient was flown to a research hospital in New York so the patient could buy herself "a little something". Sadly, this patient passed away. It has been such a hard and painful time for the patient's mother, but she knows that she can reach out to DJ anytime. DJ answers for the mom no matter when she calls or texts. She offers her an ear that listens, a shoulder to cry on and advice that only a nurse who has been in this field and cared for many in their very last days could ever give. DJ often says, "You have never really lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you."
