Matthew Peterson and Phillip Armendariz are two Extraordinary Nurses whom I have the privilege of working alongside. They routinely go above and beyond for the patients they serve. However, recently they performed an act of heroism that I believe makes them true DAISY Nurses. This past weekend, we had an ambulance ready to be picked up following repair in Blair. Matt and Phil went to retrieve it. While returning from this duty, they came across a state patrol officer actively perform CPR on an adult male. Apparently, the man had swerved off the road for an unknown reason. Matt and Phil immediately stopped and rendered aid. They were able to perform high-quality CPR and defibrillate the man multiple times in accordance with ACLS guidelines. Matt and Phil also secured an airway, placed IV access, and were able to administer epinephrine while in a snowbank on the side of the highway. The man was then transported by Matt and Phil to a nearby hospital. ROSC was achieved, and the man was able to be flown to a nearby cardiac facility. Due to the heroic efforts and immediate aid provided by Matt and Phil, the man is alive and well. These men are incredibly humble and will never seek recognition for this event. However, it is because of the efforts of Matt and Phil that a family now has their son/brother/husband/father back with them.
