Over the past t year, my mom (age 79) has been admitted to the hospital numerous times. Recently, my mom was taken by ambulance from one hospital to St. Elizabeth. All the nursing care was excellent but after we met Taylor and heard mom talk about how much she liked her, our hope was to have her as mom's nurse whenever possible. She always made us feel as if mom was her only patient, taking the time to not only tell us what medicine she was giving but its purpose too. She also asked if there was anything we (my brother and me) needed. She always could put my mother at ease. Not only did she take excellent care of mom, but she also was always willing to listen to our questions and concerns and take the time to answer any questions, no matter how insignificant they appeared to be. She went out of her way to get answers to any questions we had by contacting the appropriate people when necessary to get the answers.
Knowing my mom was being watched over by someone who genuinely cared was comforting to us. She has excellent communication skills, especially when it comes to speaking and listening. She did an outstanding job of communicating with all of us. She paid excellent attention to detail and was careful not to skip steps or make errors- she carefully checked charts, vitals, and when medications could once again be distributed to ease the pain. Nurses always need to be on top of their game and make sure that their patients are clearly understood by everyone else. They understand that the patient comes first. A truly understanding nurse is able to advocate for her patients and anticipate their needs, this is how we felt about this nurse. The connection between her and my mom was heartfelt, she would encourage her to each and drink just a little bit more, calm her about her upcoming surgery, and checked on her throughout the night. Mom had much confidence in her professional skills, which made it much easier for us to leave the hospital at night knowing she was her night duty nurse. Her friendly upbeat personality always put my mom at ease. I appreciate and will remember the caring and loving way in which she made sure mom was comfortable from gently changing her bandages, getting her meds in a timely manner, and just talking to calm any fears or anxiety. Her professional skills are only superseded by the level of empathy with which she uses those skills. My mom was blessed having her as a nurse. Nurses like her really do make a difference for every patient, every family, every day.
