I came into the ER with severe pain in my stomach. The ER nurse at the desk said there were no rooms empty, but they were taking people back one after the other. They finally carried me back after about two hours of waiting. I was scared and in such pain that it would nearly take my breath away.
In 2008, my colon burst, and I had to have 10 1/2 inches taken out. In 2014, I had two hernias repaired. I was scared that my colon was going to burst again. Then I met April Cole. She helped me so much. I gave her all of my history and the doctor came in. He said that I was going to get a cat scan with dye. It showed a twist or small bowel obstruction. He told April to put an NG tube down into my stomach. She assured me that she would help me all the way. She told me how to put my chin on my chest and to keep swallowing. I couldn't have done it without her help. She was so caring, considerate, thoughtful, and professional. She gave me a shot of morphine and Zofran. I believe with all my heart that she is a good person that cares about everyone that she meets. They carried me to a room and when I got on the bed, we hugged and my husband and I told her how much we appreciated her. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days.
When I got home, I had a card in the mail from April. She said that it was a pleasure meeting me and that she was honored to be my nurse. She said that she hoped I was feeling better and that I was in her thoughts and prayers. That made me feel so good that she cared enough to send a card. April Cole is a fine nurse and person.
