As a new nurse, I had a very critical patient. I had to give several high risk medications that I was familiar with but had never given. My patient was in critical condition and needed very close observation. Being that I was so new many nurses were very helpful but none as much as Eric on this particular day. He stayed with me the whole time and instructed me on how to give all my medications properly, he assisted the doctor in placing a central line and chest tube and stayed till the patient was stable and I could monitor him with confidence. Not only was the patient's safety maintained with a more experienced nurse nearby, but also I learned so much and I felt as though I was thrown a life-line in Eric during that chaotic situation. I still use the tools he has taught me often and while many nurses that I work with have taught me a lot, the skills that he imparted to me in that particular situation still stick with me every time I walk through the door. Eric is helpful to all his co-workers and I can't think of a better nurse to nominate for this award.
