Leizel did what no other nurse had been able to accomplish, she was able to connect and provide comfort to the wife of a dying patient.
The course of the patient's hospitalization was never intended to end with hospice. The patient had a traumatic event during the hospitalization which left the wife and family experiencing many unexpected emotions.
It was when a co-worker of Leizel was speaking with the wife that she noticed it was only when Leizel's name came up that wife's anger and sadness turned into gratitude.
The wife will have very difficult memories of her time here, but I truly believe she will remember Leizel and what she did for them. Leizel must have truly been something special to this patient and his family. I am proud to work with Leizel and how she is the first person to put herself in their shoes.
