My twin brother was admitted for a stroke. He was intubated and sedated 3-4 days. I arrived from AK on his 3rd hospital day. The nursing care he initially received was very professional for the patient but discouraged us staying overnight and overstimulating my brother. Then, Monika was our nurse. She was very hospitable, energetic and explained things to us. Along with Dr. N., the entire tone changed to educating us what the treatment plan was and encouraging our participation. Monika was responsive to shaving him, shampooing his hair, extubating him. What phenomenal relief it was to see him able to respond. Monika took initiative and discussed freely with Dr. N. and us. She even came by a day or two later to say hi to all of us. I can't thank you enough for her care. She was a bright spot at a very stressful time. Care to the family is part of the care to the patients.
