I am battling Multiple Sclerosis. My auto-immune complications have been increasing dramatically for the last two years. I was admitted here from another hospital and I was in so much pain and distress when I got here. I am allergic to all narcotics. I could not see a light at the end of this tunnel. When I was moved to this floor, Lorie was the first nurse I met. I was in so much pain, the worst I have ever known. I asked for hospice or palliative care and she started to explain to me that I was not in the category to receive this. I was so rude to her and even told her that I did not want her as my nurse. She left the room for a few minutes and came back in. By that time I was so ashamed of myself and did not say anything. She apologized to me in a very caring way. She let go of anything negative that I had said and tried her best to get me some more pain control, which was accomplished. Lorie is a very dedicated nurse. She provided me with more compassion than I feel like I deserved and with such empathy. I admire that she let go of her ego and was able to see through my words. She loves what she does and is in it to make a huge difference. Thank you, Lorie, for being selfless and compassionate.
