Recently my Mom was in Mercy West with a broken hip. Towards the end of her stay she kept telling me about a wonderful nurse named Jaqi. When I finally got to meet Jaqi, I understood why my Mom liked her so much, but I also had a feeling that I'd met her before. When she left the room, I happened to glance at the Nurse's Board and saw that this was not just any nurse "Jackie", this was Jaqi with a "Q".
You see, when my Dad had been in the hospital 11 plus years ago, he was given the most wonderful care from a nurse named "Jaqi" with a "Q." My Dad was in the hospital (Good Sam) for 7 weeks of the most horrible, indescribable pain and suffering. One nurse, Jaqi with a "Q" was the one bright light in the 7 weeks that ended with my Dad passing away.
I really couldn't believe that this nurse could be the same nurse that took such wonderful care of my Dad. She seemed too young, but I rushed to the nurse's station anyway. I just had to ask. I can't explain the feeling that come over me when I discovered that this was the same nurse that had meant so much to my Dad and to my family so long ago. This was the same nurse that always found a way to make my Dad smile, especially when she would put chap stick on his badly chapped lips and tell him it was "Ruby Red Lipstick."
She touched our lives and hearts then and we are so blessed that she is touching them once again. She is such a blessing and deserves recognition. She needs to know that her loving and caring for her patients and their families is very much needed and appreciated.
