Wendy consistently demonstrates excellent clinical professionalism by thoroughly reviewing each patient's situation prior to providing care. I have personally seen her evaluate the need for an entered order for IV access by reviewing the chart as well and interviewing the patient and primary nurse to ensure that the need and type of access are appropriate for the patient. Often, she has been able to advocate for the patient by finding an alternate solution to a more invasive procedure for the patient, preventing potential harm, discomfort, and excessive cost. If determined that the IV access is appropriate, whether it be a peripheral, mid, or central line, she provides detailed information to the patient regarding the rationale for use, procedure for insertion, and follow up care. She is very compassionate and patient, offering reassurance and comfort. She also provides excellent education to staff members regarding IV therapy and is always happy to answer questions. She is continuously using the most up to date and evidence-based information to maintain her practice and uses this to help update policies and procedures as well. Wendy continues to be an inspiration to myself and other co-workers on a daily basis.
