Megan is a true team player. She consistently demonstrates our core values in her interactions with patients, families and her co-workers. Co-workers from her home department as well as a sister unit frequently send her kudos for going above and beyond to help out. She has that "wow factor" when engaging our new parents, she is able to quickly gain their trust and confidence in the care we provide. She is the CHRISTUS difference.

Megan provided exceptional and personal care. She kept us informed on the progress and answered all our questions. I specifically remember when I would be frustrated or upset, she would be the one who could calm me down. She helped me feel reassured and confident in being a first-time mom. Her conversations were so encouraging.

I didn't know Megan prior to the birth of my child, but on that day she became one of the most important people in my life. She was in the delivery room when I gave birth to two precious babies at just 25 weeks. It was one of the most intense and terrifying days of my life. I can remember the doctor saying, "we have to deliver the babies now" and just how frightened I was. I can also remember another nurse coming in my room just before the delivery and introducing herself and letting me know that she would be in the delivery room and helping to get my babies the immediate support and care they needed. She helped calm me down by assuring me that my babies were in very capable hands and she and the team were going to do everything they could to care for them and get them stable. It meant so much to me that she took the time to come and talk to me before we were in the OR.
I could tell from the very beginning that Megan loved being placed with them and wasn't afraid to handle them even though they were so tiny and fragile. I could see that she was very confident when she took care of them and dedicated to doing her best and that, in turn, assured me that she was one that I could trust with two of the most important and precious things to my husband and me. When we would walk into the room to visit our babies, she was so willing to tell us everything that was going on with them that day. She was eager to answer any questions that we had concerning our babies and I always knew that I could count on her to tell me how they were really doing, whether it was a good day or not.
Megan has a personality that one would want around when placed in a situation such as ours. She is upbeat, positive, helpful, kind, uplifting and one who truly loves her job. She was not only a wonderful nurse to our babies, but she became a wonderful friend to us. There were many days when things weren't going super well and we became discouraged. She was there to offer words of encouragement, insight, advice, and a hug when I needed one. She truly became like family to us.
One memory of Megan that really stands out for me was when the babies were about 3 weeks old. Up to this point, I had not gotten to hold either one of them and it was heartbreaking. However, on this day, she saw that it was beginning to take a toll on me to not be able to hold either of my children. She was in charge of taking care of my little man that day and he was having a fantastic day. He was still on the ventilator, but she gave me the opportunity to hold my baby boy for the very first time in my hands. This is a moment I will never forget. This is a nurse who truly cares for the entire family. It would have been easier for her to just say he couldn't be held, but that's not who she is. She made a way for me to hold my child and kiss him for the first time. I'm still so grateful that she gave me that opportunity and memory.
Megan is so willing to go above and beyond what is required. She not only loves and adores her patients but wants to make a true connection with the family and allow them to have a role in helping their child along the NICU journey. She became such a huge part of our lives. She wasn't working on the day that we were leaving with both of our healthy babies, but she showed up. She came to the hospital anyway to be a part of this amazing milestone. She was always there for us when we needed her and I am thankful to call this amazing nurse my friend. She still makes contact with me to check on my babies. The bond Megan makes with her patients is remarkable. I am honored that she was our nurse and remains our friend.
