"As the RN Unit Supervisor, Robert checked in on me daily when he was working in the ICU. He would pick a "Song for the Day" and my sister would play it one her iPhone. On Monday, October 9, 2017, we sang along to "Monday, Monday," by the Mamas and the Papas. It created a HAPPY moment in my room, and it was a refreshing and welcome change from all the IVs, tests, and procedures! On Sunday, October 15, Robert used the sonogram to locate a good IV location. We listened to "She Talks to Angels," by the Black Crowes during the insertion. My sister and I both appreciated Robert's compassion, dedication, innovation, and commitment to nursing excellence and high quality of care. "
"Thank you Robert, for adding sunshine and smiles to my day!"
By using music and a selection of songs that could help a patient withstand some of the negative experiences during a hospitalization, Robert was able to provide a much-needed diversion to a patient. His idea for a "Song of the Day" helped to create a distraction and promote a healing environment to help his patient get through their stay. Though it was a small act to Robert, it created such positive and memorable associations to help carry his patient through something that was most likely adifficult and unpleasant illness. To help a patient find some kind of joy and happiness during an ICU stay is truly a remarkable gift that we can as nurses bestow to those in our care. Robert, we are so proud to have you as part of our nursing team!
