Shawn's clinical skill and especially his compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model.
Shawn has an innate ability to build a therapeutic alliance with patients. This week, he was able to secure a dangerous piece of contraband from a patient due to the rapport he had with him. Had it not been for the relationship he had developed with this patient, the trust he established with him, and his ability to communicate effectively with the patient, it is likely he would not have known about the hidden contraband. He truly kept the entire unit safe by securing this item. His direct supervisor remarked that she is so thankful that he is part of the CPC Chimayo team and truly appreciates his ability to establish trust and rapport with his patients. Shawn was also extremely helpful in providing staff with coverage, in order to help a highly acute patient climb out of her deep sadness even if for only a short time. The support he provides to the patients and the other members of the team are greatly appreciated.
