Andrea was awesome when my daughter was transferred to her department from the ER where initially her blood sugar was 589 and she was given 34 units of insulin. Andrea's first instinct was to check her blood sugar as she was diaphoretic and in and out of it. I was getting anxious at this point because I have seen my daughter this way before and this has been the beginning stages of her going into a diabetic coma. I tried to talk to her and she was in and out. Andrea contacted the physician and got an order for dextrose and gave it to her, no response, I'm still trying to talk to her to get her to respond, then Andrea gets the order for a second dose of Dextrose, again no response. At that point, Andrea calls in the Rapid Response Team and they immediately took over. I got very emotional at that point but all the nurses that were there were very comforting and were great huggers. They were very reassuring that my daughter was in good hands and they were going to do what was best for her and at that time that was sending her to ICU.
