I recently had a difficult patient who has COPD. This patient was actually scared about staying alive or moving to the ICU and being placed on a ventilator. Harley, whom I do not know, calmed my patient down and made her feel more relaxed and assured that she would be okay. Being calm is of great importance for breathing problems. My patient knew that Harley could not do anything to fix it, but she checked on her so often and was such a calming force that my patient raved about her to me the next day. My patient is frequently admitted, and most nurses and staff know her and she is typically not one to comment on staff who do a good job. I sincerely appreciate the effort of this nurse.
