Bart's clinical skills and especially his compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that our patients, their families, and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model. He does not sit by a computer while his co-workers are drowning in work. He is going above and beyond what is required. He is truly a team player. He uses his critical thinking and jumps right in to help and find solutions. Recently, he has gone above and beyond to help not only the patient but his wife for safety concerns.
I had this patient in the recovery room. His wife was outside waiting for him. The patient's wife spoke very little English. The patient and his wife were staying in a guest house and parked their vehicle in the garage. We asked if she could move the car from the garage to the ER. The patient had raised concern that his wife can drive but she is scared to drive and is not confident alone in the car.
Bart had heard this, so he went to talk to the patient's wife. He went with her to their car and had her drive slowly while he was running with the car to make sure she does ok. He had her park in the ER parking lot and instructed her not to leave the vehicle while we bring her husband to the car. This nurse went above and beyond his call of duty and has made an everlasting impression.
Thank you, Bart, for the compassionate care and dedication you show to our patients and their families!
