Amy is one of the most caring, dedicated people I have ever met. She consistently works long hours caring for our veterans, including weekends, and almost never misses a day. Amy always maintains optimism, good cheer, professionalism, and extraordinary kindness. There are few like her.
The veterans on the residential unit are dealing with often quite serious mental health struggles. Some become irritable, and even angry at times, and are sometimes rude to nursing staff when anxious. Yet Amy consistently takes it all in stride. She remains calm and speaks in a soothing, caring way. She is always able to make the veterans feel better just by being near. Amy knows that sometimes it's the little things - a kind word, a pat on the shoulder, a smile - that often makes a big difference.
Amy is never content to leave work undone. She tirelessly counts medications and makes sure our veterans know how to take them and when. She patiently instructs and advises; few nurses possess her many years of experience, skill, and knowledge. If a veteran ever needs something from another team - whether a walker, proper footwear, an appointment - she does not rest until she has called hounded until getting what the veteran needs. Most don't even know what she does in this regard as she is quiet and unassuming.
Finally, Amy is a gift to the staff. She always notices when someone needs support some cheer. Amy never fails to go out of her way to say just the right thing to a person in need. We are very blessed to have her.
