My husband needed a new aorta heart valve and we came to Little Company of Mary to have the operation. I first met Nicole when we visited the hospital with my husband, to have some needed tests made. She took us to each waiting room while explaining what the test would be and why they needed it. She was so assuring that some of my concerns were lowered. My husband and I have been married 69 years and we are four months into our 70th year. Her explanations were comforting.
It was time for the heart valve operation and we were back in the hospital. The first person we saw was Nicole. My son and daughter were with me and I really thought I was doing just fine but I knew, deep down, I was concerned about the operation. I would have to say that Nicole endeared herself to me by always being right there to give encouraging words and making you feel loved. Now that is amazing because we didn't really know each other that well but her love and concern were genuine and I could feel it. As the doctors were sewing him up they found a three-and-a-half-inch blood clot. It took two additional hours for the blood clot to be removed. Nicole was there with us giving us the assurance that the procedure was going well.
My husband had lost so much blood that the new valve had nothing to pump and he went unconscious. A code blue was called on him. Nicole was there with us. She calmed us all down and especially me. She is quite a person, nurse, encourager, and all-around wonderful lady. We will never forget her and her service to us at one of our largest needs.
