I am a WellSpan employee. In the summer of 2019, I found out that I was expecting my second child. Unfortunately, I was soon diagnosed with a severe case of hyperemesis gravidarum, which causes relentless vomiting and dehydration in pregnancy. During a hospitalization, my doctors decided to begin outpatient IV hydration and treatment.
For seven months, I required weekly peripheral IV placement in order to run fluids and medication 24/7. VNA nurses were unable to complete my IV insertions, due to my dehydration and small, difficult veins. For a period of time, I had to go to the hospital infusion center or ER whenever I needed a new IV, at least weekly.
Then, I found Sandy! For months, she worked me into her schedule whenever a new IV was needed. She was always kind, patient, accommodating, and gentle. I've lost count of how many IVs she placed for me over the past 7 months, but I am so grateful for each and every one. Not only is Sandy a magician when it comes to getting an IV in on the first stick, but she is also a pleasure to be around.
During my weekly visits, we would talk about our weeks, our families, and my pregnancy. She was such an encouraging person and a source of positivity for me during a very difficult time. I don't know how I would have made it through 7 months of IV therapy without her.
Please, please, recognize Sandy for her hard work and beautiful heart!
