In reading the criteria for a DAISY Award, I noticed the sculpture was entitled "A healers touch", how appropriate for my nominee. The young lady I would like to recognize is Colleen Slough. This woman is truly a lifesaver, she saved my life and my family. I will always be grateful to her. Colleen is truly a guardian angel and the charge nurse on 13 Pavilion.
I was in Colleen's unit. I was being watched over by an incredible staff of nurses, mostly angels when my nurse saw that I had labored breathing among other things. I had just recently had pancreatic cancer surgery. My nurse was called away for a family emergency and Colleen took over my care from that point.
Colleen made her assessment and had her thoughts, an ultrasound of my legs confirmed blood clots and she called in an attending physician. She still was not satisfied and consulted with another nurse from the Rapid Response Team. Colleen made the call. She thought that I may have had a blood clot and she was right a pulmonary embolism.
They whisked me away for a CAT scan and I was later transferred into the ICU. I thought it was the end of the road for me. Colleen even took some of her own valuable time to visit me in the ICU. So, you talk about compassion and professionalism, Colleen's name should be at the top of the list.
Jefferson University Hospital should be so proud to have an exemplary employee with her qualification under their employ.
