Urszula exemplifies the highest professional standard beholden to a nurse.
Urszula certainly follows protocol, explains discrepancies and issues related to a specific request or outcome, and ensures the patient understands the next steps. She has the integrity to do the right thing and follows a patient's chart.
Urszula was asked by the day nurse to change my dressing because the day nurse did not get time to change it. Urszula immediately investigated my case, thoroughly read my chart, and discussed the request with me. Urszula indicated that the doctor had not left instructions to change the dressing and she did not want to go against protocol until the doctor was alerted. She immediately contacted the doctor to make sure the doctor allowed the dressing to be changed before she did so. She did not just take another nurse's recommendation as gospel until she was ensured the action would be prudent by the doctor.
In another instance, she anticipated my need and executed on the outcome in a timely manner. When I was unable to sleep, Urszula jumped into action and investigated the ability to order me a waffle mattress. She reported back the timing of its delivery and the timing of it being put on my bed. She clearly anticipates a patient's needs and executes them.
Urszula also teams well with all the PCAs and is not too proud to do any job. She says, "We all help each other out." Urszula did not flinch and assisted me with a bedpan. If she was there and could help with a task, no matter how trivial, she stepped up to the plate to execute it.
I think Urszula is a true DAISY Nurse not only because she follows protocol, anticipates patient's needs, and will do any task, but because she speaks about how excited she is to help train others. Her zest for being the best nurse possible really comes through to each patient.
