Esmeralda was nominated for her constant support and professionalism while caring for a patient experiencing extreme bowel impaction.
When the patient first arrived, he required a blood draw. However, the patient was considered a "difficult stick" and required a lab draw instead. Throughout the process, Esmeralda was patient and proactive, gathering all the necessary materials and getting the additional support she needed to help the draw go smoothly.
"She stayed at my father's bedside and encouraged and assisted him through a very messy and odorous job," the patient's daughter wrote in a nomination letter. "She was unbelievable, and her professionalism, kindness, and compassion shined throughout the difficult process."
Later in his stay, the patient grew agitated and uncomfortable from laying in the same position for so long. Esmeralda called a colleague to help her move the patient to a wheelchair for a short time, and he immediately relaxed.
"I cannot say enough about the wonderful care she provided," the family member wrote. "She is one of the kindest, most caring, professional nurses we have ever encountered."
