Emily was nominated by a patient for her warm friendly disposition and her ability to become like part of the family during a patient's stay after major surgery. The patient noted that the first few days of recovery went ok until it didn't; the next three nights were a nightmare. Emily cared for the patient each of these three nights and made a huge impact. "She was pivotal in keeping me sane, safe, and comforted as best as possible during these evenings. First, she was warm and friendly, not rushed nor frustrated. As I became ill, she was tactful yet direct in explaining my need for an NG tube and remained by my side not only during the painful insertion but also afterward as I tried to adjust to the discomfort, staying with me even after her shift ended. As a career soldier, I may not be the easiest person to work with but, Emily's reassurance and patience kept me on track."
Unexpected issues were encountered that resulted in having to move to another room and Emily and crew facilitated that transition effortlessly. "We moved into another and were all hooked back up to everything in what seemed like a second. After the move, Emily simply commented by saying - well, I guess we are family now. After a week I finally got released, but my wife and I will always reflect most on Emily as our closest new family member of our new family members from GBH."
