My son was seen yesterday for a tonsillectomy and removal of adenoids. We encountered a lot of nurses. However, James Hynes was the most attentive, caring, passionate, and honestly seemed the most knowledgeable. From the phone call to the surgical waiting room to watching him care for my son in recovery, I was absolutely mind blown. I know nurses' jobs are stressful, hard, and they are so unappreciated by families.
With that being said, James like this wasn't a job to him. You could clearly see this was a passion, his life, and something he loved doing. My son is 6 years old and this was his first encounter with a surgery and a team of nurses. He wanted James to be with him the whole time.
James got down to my son's bed-level when talking to him, spoon-fed him apple sauce until I could get to him. I am in nursing school now and if I am half the nurse that James is, I will be so happy. You have a compassionate, knowledgeable, funny, and above par nurse and I hope he gets the recognition he deserves. Even his communication with the nurse on the pediatric floor was impeccable.
James did more than his job yesterday. He made a 6-year-old little boy comfortable in one of the most nerve-wracking parts of his little life. We are thankful our paths crossed with James. I wish I had the time to thank him personally and tell him just how comfortable he made not only my son but for me as a mom. He was reassuring me that it's going to be okay. He did everything he could to get son comfortable and get him to quit crying.
It's nurses like him that pull others into the profession and make us want to be that great. So, thank you, James! You are in the right career and you are going above beyond. Thank you for caring and being a rock-star.
