I have been diagnosed with many mental health disorders in my life. These diagnoses include depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. Susy was one of few nurses who saw me as a whole person and not a diagnosis. Many would write me off and do the bare minimum during my hospital admission until I eventually got sent on my way back to the mental health facility where I came from. One admission that I was in due to a UTI, I had to stay on the medical floor for a prolonged period of time. I was healthy enough to be able to walk around and interact, but sick enough to have to stay as an inpatient. Luckily, I had Susy as my nurse many days I was there. She took the time to get to know me and even spent the time she could have spent elsewhere taking me on walks and interacting with me and giving me the social interaction I needed while in the hospital. She even bought me a Christmas present, something I have never gotten from a healthcare provider in my life. She will never know how much she truly impacted my views on the healthcare system and impacted my life in general. She showed me that I am more than my disease. She is a special type of nurse. She deserves all the recognition in the world. Susy makes such a difference in the lives of others!
