Julie is an Extraordinary Nurse. As she runs through the halls of 8 East, she is dedicated and always goes above and beyond for her patients. She will give the clothes off her back before she sends her patients home without anything. One day, while working with Julie, we had a patient who didn't speak English as a first language, he was disabled and had many barriers to his health and well-being. When any staffing personnel entered the room, Julie ran in to make sure she was there to comfort her patient and made sure he understood everything the doctors, case managers, or even dietary said while communicating with him. She was a true advocate for him when no one would listen or take the time to understand what he was trying to say. When it was time for him to go home, she made it her mission to find him some clothes so he would not have to go into the cold rainy weather without anything. He didn't have any food and she went to find food so while he went home, he didn't starve. He didn't have a way home and she was so close to paying out of her pocket to make sure this man could catch a bus home.
While still caring for her other patients, she radiates this energy and positivity to every patient she encounters every day. She always treats every patient and anyone she meets like her own family. I've been working with her for two years and I can say I have never seen her angry, or even express how overwhelmed she may seem. She does her job gracefully without any hesitation because she truly loves what she does! She forever wears a smile on her face. She has taught me many things as a PCA and even a future nurse. One thing I will never forget because of her is how to be compassionate. I would sincerely trust her with my life; she is the true definition of gifted.
