The day was a crazy busy one, Casey had gone back to the operating room to assist in the management and care of a patient whose delivery was complicated by Hemorrhage. The patient continued to Hemorrhage even after Code Crimson was called, the patient's condition was deteriorating. Shortly after Casey, arrived in the operating room the patient had no pulse or B/P, a CODE BLUE was called.
Casey and Dr. O initiated CPR, Defibrillated, and gave Epinephrine to this patient. The Code TEAM arrived and Casey continued to assist with the Life-Sustaining CPR on this mom, who incidentally was one of our very own RN's at CRMC. This Code Blue was continued for 74 minutes. Upon the return of blood pressure and pulse, the patient was taken to Interventional Radiology; bleeding was stabilized, and she was taken to ICU.
Casey's critical thinking and steady hand including her compassion for Nursing shined through. Her actions played a crucial part in this new mom returning home to her newborn baby and husband after ten days, with remarkably No Deficits...
