This award honors the superhuman work that nurses do for patients and nurses. I believe that Bernadette will say that she is doing what is expected. The reality is that she goes above and beyond the role of a caring and compassionate nurse and leader. She cares very deeply that nurses feel satisfied in their roles. She has risen to numerous challenges as our hospital has been in a transition state for nearly 2 years. She is readily available to staff as a resource and demonstrates personal pride in her work, and that of the nursing team.
Most recently, she delivered food to the various departments, and she made a special point of honoring those that provide care, as well as those that support care. She truly understands the value of the whole team. She finds moments to teach, moments to listen, and moments to act.
She has been in her role through this global pandemic, where she provides comfort to staff and patients. In an environment where visitors are not allowed, to prevent the spread of infection, she, at times, must fill that void. It is difficult for staff and difficult for patients. She lends a listening ear and an open heart, as she demonstrates her compassion.
In emergency situations, she is calm and present. The staff has expressed appreciation for her willingness to problem-solve with them.
