Shirley is a prime example of what compassionate, professional, and skillful nursing looks like. From the moment she walked into my room until her goodbye at the end of her shift, Shirley never missed a beat. She at the moment of some excruciating pain promptly brought me my pain medicine and took a few minutes shortly after to walk with me; she didn't need to, she wanted to, and I felt such compassion just flowing from her heart. She wasn't just "practicing nursing". She is a Nurse with a big compassionate heart for me as her patient and I am sure she does the same for all her patients because it's so natural for her.
At 3 AM Shirley noticed my JP drain was full and the dressing was soaked. She took her time to explain exactly what she was about to do and made the extra effort to leave the room and get an adhesive remover- that was the most painless bandage removal ever! She has gentle hands, a patient spirit, a caring soul, a warm personality, knowledge, skill, and professionalism. She was my guardian angel through my hospital stay that Saturday night.
