Lyndsey is the nursing supervisor for the Acute Care clinics. I had the opportunity to witness her leadership skills of stepping in to help out in the 'trenches' of the COVID-19 epidemic. To give a bit of background, a team of Primary Care and Acute Care leaders quickly pulled together workflows and resources to be able to perform the Drive-thru testing.
Going out to see the setup, I saw Lyndsey was the frontline nurse greeting the patients pulling up at the drive-thru. She put herself out there, mask on, having patients roll down their window, handing them a mask, and educating them on the testing process and telling them to self-quarantine until their test result comes back.
What I admire about this, is that Lyndsey put her own self out there at the beginning of these uncertain times, in front of people who could potentially be positive for COVID or some other contagious illness. She told me she was planning to work Saturday as well, because as she said, "I can't stay away, and I need to make sure everyone is doing okay."
When we went to see the area where the staff was donned in PAPR masks waiting for patients to pull up to be tested, Lyndsey noticed that one of the nurses was still in her PAPR after a long 5 hours back there. I heard her assure the nurse she was going to get her out of there so she could get a much-needed break. I left that day feeling so inspired by Lyndsey. I am proud she is truly leading her team with a brave face during this time of uncertainty.
