Jack is a nurse-patient flow coordinator in our nursing administrative support services department. While he was working, a patient's family member was injured in front of the hospital. Jack was notified of the incident and immediately sprang into action. He found the woman—now a patient herself—and stayed with her in the pouring rain until EMS arrived to transport her to our emergency department.
Once the patient was inside, Jack was soaked from head to toe with shoes full of water. Without concern for himself, he ensured the patient was taken care of and comfortable. His nominators said, "Jack demonstrated compassion and critical thinking in this situation which in turn made the patient feel calm and secure. He put the injured patient before himself and made a positive impact on her life in a very vulnerable time."
