Since opening the Respiratory Isolation Unit on CVT, charge nurses have floated to the unit to prevent transferring patients to the unit when certain treatments are needed. This has been instrumental in providing seamless care to our patients on this unit.
Alishia is a CVT charge nurse who has floated to this unit many times. She always has a great attitude, is willing to assist coworkers, and most importantly our patients. Due to the current restrictions on visitation, the patients on this particular unit often times feel alone and isolated. Their doors have to remain shut and the staff cluster care to limit exposure of themselves.
Alishia was the charge nurse and was preparing a patient to go down for testing and noticed the patient's breathing was labored. She notified the physician. It was determined the patient had taken a turn for the worse and was declining rapidly. Alishia stayed with the patient until her passing. She held the patient's hand during her passing so that she would not pass alone. Alishia has excellent clinical skills and her compassion exemplifies that of a DAISY Nurse. She has been an excellent resource to her peers when working on this unit and never hesitates to go above and beyond for her patients.
Alishia demonstrated extraordinary compassionate care. She lived our Riverside Mission and took care of this patient just as she would have taken care of her family.
