Jessica stands out for her compassion, caring, and dedication to her staff, coworkers, and patients and families. In addition to what I just listed, I have admired her flexibility, steadfastness, and innovative ways during the COVID pandemic. Looking back from the beginning of COVID, these were unusual times and therefore called for unusual ways of doing things; Jessica was a leader in that effort.
Jessica has worked to minimize fear and augmenting the embrace in her team to respond to the COVID pandemic while leading the effort to keep both patients and staff safe. She has worked with others to turn what could have been a chaotic work environment to a compassionate and teamwork environment.
She is resourceful, has the savviness and the ability to balance supporting, advocating, and working within our limitations. As a leader, she was able to convey communication positively while being transparent which led to her team's continuous trust in her.
I believe that Jessica has demonstrated the quintessence of a DAISY Nurse Leader. Below are some examples:
-Created a cart with COVID supplies for codes (only unit doing that in the system)
-Created a cart for physician rounding - physicians able to go from room to room with needed supplies within reach
-Cart with supplies in the unit (visual for staff to see available supplies)
-Donning PPE to transport patients transferring to ICU - working side by side with staff
-Advocate for staffing ratio and the necessary supplies for staff before it was a requirement
-Support both day and night shift by being physically available to both
-Daily call to staff on quarantine to show support and provide comfort
-Managing and supporting Observation staff being redeployed to other duties
Above all, her effort and vigilance have contributed tremendously to a low exposure rate to our staff during this pandemic. Because of the processes in place on 4 South, staff from other units floating to 4 South were able to easily adapt those processes to stay safe.
Best of all, she did all that with grace, humility, and calmness; you could not see her sweating. Because of that, she led, and her team followed.
