I have to start this off by saying I used to work in a very high strung office setting, hated it. My mom grew up as a cardio tech, so I have always had a passion for the medical field. After many years of being miserable in the office, I decided to go to school to become a surgical tech. One of the reasons I chose to go the "medical" route, was in my corporate job (high-level executive), I was told by my bosses I was "too nice", "too caring", "this isn't the job to be passionate". "Bill clients, bill, bill bill". This was just not me.
Fast forward, I drove over an hour to give birth at HOCC because every time I grew up and needed medical attention, "New Britain General" was the way to go. Everyone was so nice, each and every time. So when I met my husband and got pregnant, I knew HOCC was the hospital for me. It was so worth it - the nurses, food staff, everyone was so kind and compassionate. Kudos to really all the staff in L&D and postpartum.
It was hard to pick just one staff member that stood out, but Tammy in postpartum really stood out from everyone else. I had a difficult recovery, as it being my first kid, I felt like I was pushing the help button every second. Tammy worked overnight shifts. Tammy was a breath of fresh air. No matter what time, or what silly question I had, she pulled up a chair, right next to my bed, explaining in a manner that I could understand as well as my husband.
I really cannot say enough about Tammy. She went above and beyond to make my recovery as easy as it could be. The care I received both nights she was on staff, was extraordinary. I was so happy when I found out she'd be the night nurse for the second night of my stay. We quickly bonded over babies, she gave me so much "baby" advice and help, I really cannot thank her enough.
She made a difference in my life, and she should get recognized for her compassionate care, which really means so much in today's world. Just being kind, going above and beyond what is needed.
Tammy, if you ever get to read or see this, simply Thank You for being you, and for being so kind and compassionate to me. You made my recovery so much better with your smiling face, I really do hope and pray you are my nurse again when I deliver baby #2! Thank you so much. You rock!
