I would like to nominate Brittney Gleason, a night shift RN on the observation unit. Brittney lives Allina's mission and values at all times, those of Integrity, Compassion, Respect, Trust and Stewardship. One of her strongest attributes is how she promotes a positive work environment. She does this through the heartfelt care that she feels for her team members. When she found out that the hospital's nurses' week activities were canceled, she hand wrote an individual card for each nurse as well as gave them a small potted succulent. In addition, when 3300 was identified as the COVID rule out unit, Brittney volunteered to float there and take a patient assignment so that those nurses could get RAs, a well-needed rest.
Brittney wears many hats on the observation unit. She is a floor nurse, charge nurse, unit council, and pain committee member. When working as the charge nurse, Brittney will routinely take over the care of a patient to facilitate our ability to accept patients from the ED or PACU. She is always lending a hand and helping all of the nurses with their patients. Thus, for that reason, Brittney receives an abundance of 'care on the spots' from her colleagues. The entire team knows that when Brittney is working, they will be supported and able to get through any challenges that may arise!
Brittney is always going above and beyond. She is frequently bringing solutions to leadership regarding issues we are having on the unit. It isn't uncommon for her to make tip sheets and tracking forms to ensure safe practices are in place for our patients and our staff. As a member of Unit Council, in addition to sending out a unit council update via email, Brittney also creates and formats the pertinent information into PowerPoint making it easier for the staff to read.
I feel we are ALL extremely fortunate to have Brittney on our unit. We thank you for your leadership, partnership, and everlasting dedication.
