My mother was brought into the emergency room very weak, filled with infection, and had turned septic. She was admitted and pumped with antibiotics and plenty of tests were run. She finally got better and was able to come home.
Before she was able to be discharged, she went from the ICU unit to the 4th floor, Med/Surg where we met Shannon. She was the most compassionate nurse we have ever encountered. She went above and beyond to help find me the answers I really needed to continue to take care of my mother at home with her progressive MS.
She will be going home with a PICC line and wound vac. I will also have to straight cath her from the bed, as she is no longer able to move and if she has muscle spasms, she could rip out the wound vac during the transfer to the bathroom. As you can imagine I had plenty of questions and was under plenty of stress as I also have two young daughters and my own home to take care of as well. Shannon's guiding hand, and true confidence in me, somehow gave me the strength to find my own confidence that it will all be ok.
