Ashley was a straight shooter while being compassionate. My brother W passed from COVID-19 yesterday and there is no way I could have gotten through it without Ashely's grace and professionalism. She allowed my brother to have a peaceful and dignified passing.
When we knew the end was likely, she arranged for my family to say our goodbyes via Zoom. I drove from Dallas to Houston with the knowledge my brother would die at some point soon. I thought maybe if I could make it to the hospital grounds, he could feel my spirit and go on. I was prepared for not being able to see him again because of COVID-19 restrictions.
When Ashley heard I was headed to the hospital complex she said she would make a few calls to see if I could at least be near him. I knew I wouldn't be able to hold his hand. Ashley got me as close as safely possible. I was able to watch from the glass door outside the air pressured room as W took his last breaths. She held his hand as he died, and I can't thank her enough for that gift. On top of that, Ashley gave me the reading of Walter's last measurable heartbeat.
I truly appreciate what your staff does on a regular basis during this pandemic. My brother's last text was highly complimentary of his treatment. I didn't think that would be his last communication with me, but it says so much about your staff. I can't imagine the courage it takes to do what you and others like you are doing in these times.
I will never be able to unsee that ICU ward. I wish more Americans can see what happens every day there and everything doctors and nurses do in an attempt to get people through this pandemic.
I will never forget Ashley and what she did for W, me, and my family. God bless you all.
